ISSUED is a journal for all active-duty military, veterans, and family members, a platform to share military experiences through poetry, prose, and visual art.

We especially value stories about gender and sexuality, BIPOC experiences, physical and mental health, combat, enlisting and separating, family and relationships, and returning to civilian life.

ISSUED also features profiles of veterans who are doing extraordinary work in their communities, whether it be through the arts, education, or advocacy.

Most importantly, we believe that ISSUED can be a resource in our communities, a creative way to process (and access) oftentimes difficult stories. At ISSUED, we believe in the power of sharing both our suffering and our joy with the human community!

ISSUED is looking for stories by active-duty military, veterans, and family members—specifically, poetry and flash prose that expresses the spectrum of experiences within military life, including gender and sexuality, BIPOC voices, physical and mental health combat, enlisting and separating, family and relationships, and reintegration into society. We’re also accepting visual art in any genre.
